Herman Story: The Rest of the “Story”…

Last week, I shared about our recent visit to Herman Story Wines in Paso Robles. In response to that post, a couple people asked for more information about the wines themselves. Well, here’s the rest of the “Story”!

Syrah is one of my favorite grapes and provides very different aromas and flavors, depending on the region it is from and the clone. It is grown in France, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Australia, Argentina, Italy, and, of course, California. Syrah is blended with many other varietals and is a great stand-alone wine.

This is what first attracted me to Herman Story Wines. They have three different Syrahs: “White Hawk Vineyard,” “John Sebastiano,” and “Nuts and Bolts.” Nuts and Bolts is full bodied and rich, which is what drew me to the wine. It has great depth of flavor — it’s bold on entry with a long finish. This year’s Nuts and Bolts presents with dark berry and spice. This is a well-crafted wine that sells for $42 and is well worth the money.

On our visit to Herman Story, we tasted several wines. We started with the “Tomboy” (100% Viognier) and then tried a Rosé made from Grenache called “After Hours,” a 100% Grenache called “On the Road,” the “Nuts and Bolts,” and then finished with the “Signmaker.” The last wine was an interesting blend of Cabernet and Syrah, vintage 2010. (This was one I bought to drink during our stay. It was well-aged and luscious.) This was an excellent line-up and a great way to start the weekend in Paso Robles. Great people, great wine, and good values. What else would you want?

Enjoy!
